Before we do anything in our business we need to know who we are. This is not defined by what people say about us, what we do, where we work or even our hobbies! Who we are goes much deeper than that. Who we are goes much deeper than what we do in business, even deeper than being a business owner. Who you are will stay the same across the board no matter what you do, if you live in an authentic way.
So my first challenge for you will be to explore who you are!
These are just a few questions to help you to start exploring...
- What are you passionate about?
- What would you be happy doing all day if you didn't need to make any money?
- What are your morals and values?
- What are your deepest hopes and dreams?
- What makes you happy and what makes you sad?
- What would you like to say about yourself and your life on your death bed?
Next up, explore the work that you have been 'given'.
The work you have been 'given' will be whatever your current situation is at the start of this challenge. If you are already in business, chances are it is something that you enjoy and are passionate about and we'll treat that as the work you have been 'given'. Or perhaps you are looking at many opportunities or pathways and directions and so that is the work you have been 'given'. Is this the path you would like to take on this challenge? Use what you have discovered about who you are to asses and decide what it is you would like to do.
Meditate on this as you walk through the week ahead, I hope it will help you to think more clearly about yourself and your business and start you on your way to being yourself and being authentic in your business!
Now the fun part.. In what ever way you are most inspired, record all your thoughts and findings!
This is where you get to be as creative as you like! The aim of this is to set you up for the year, so it needs to be something that you can look at everyday to remind yourself of who you are and what you want in your life. Something that inspires you and gets you feeling excited and creative! Here are two of my own ideas to get your creative juices flowing:
- Create a Vision Board and fill it with things that inspire you, your hopes/dreams and visions for your life, reminders, goals, ambitions etc. Also include photos from your life, encouraging letters, achievements etc.
- Create a Scrap Book with with the same kind of clippings, and perhaps leave space for future notes and ideas? I have left space to write my business plan!
The challenge is to be yourself and to be creative! What ideas can you come up with??
